I went grocery shopping today, the first time in a long while. Why, I ask myself. Maybe for these reasons: I bought the usual replacement items, catfood, Ensure and 3-lb. bag of frozen blueberries. That just about qualified me to use the Hannaford $5 off $50 coupon in the newspaper.
Or maybe because the house is empty and nostalgia set in, along with traditional urge to buy some extra food, just in case. I already have in my fridge a half-gallon of iced tea that I bought in anticipation of an upcoming procedure. I asked the boys to open the stubbornly affixed cap and they each had a small glass. But there the rest of it sits, almost full.
Or maybe because when I passed the deli counter, I bought a rotisserie turkey breast because it smelled good and it reminded me that I hadn't had any real food in a long time except for cookies and toast and frozen Van waffles.
But that doesn't account for why I bought a watermelon. That must be out of pure nostalgia.
