The "d" or not the "d"

   I keep hearing the term on TV, but the closed captions invariably spell out "risk adverse" instead of "risk averse" and it's messing up my mind.

Ya think?

Take heart, you tell yourself,
The cardinals are back,
Nesting in the very top of the old yew tree,
The same as always.

But you know that's wrong-
Not the same as always.
Birds don't live 20 or 30 years,
Do they?

Maybe the children of the children
Of the original pair of birds.
Do they return generation by generation
To nest in the family tree of their ancestors?

I hear that cardinals don't migrate.
They stay through the cold weather.
Could  it be they find winter refuge
Deep in the branches of the nesting tree.

Even the yew tree has changed with the years
Some branches gone, others bent and twisted.
But we like to think that all is the same
That the past  is subsumed by the present.
          And thus we go on with life.

    "Multistate crime ring busted in Green Island"
There's apparently big money in thermostats and circuit breakers in the NYC market. A local crew, in Green Island no less,  allegedly specialized in this market; they were recently arrested for stealing from a man from California who wanted to buy circuit breakers but instead was robbed of his cash, credit cards, and his Rolex watch. Another victim lost $200,000 worth of equipment in credit card scam from them. Investigation, including that of the FBI,  revealed a crime ring operating across 7 states,  amounting to millions of dollars in fraudulent activity.
   The local arrest included 2 men who were in possession of lots of cash, dozens of cellphones, and multiple loaded firearms, including semi-assault weapons.  One of them was also wearing the stolen Rolex.
   A potential Netflix series could potentially revolve around the alleged mastermind of the thefts---a 23-year-old paraplegic who had been getting to crime scenes in what police say was a stolen handicap mini-van.
      More charges from multiple agencies are expected to follow.
   
 

Moonlight

   One night near the end of her years of looking at the night sky, my mother called me up, almost apologetically asking if I would look at what she described was a most beautiful moon. She thought I might be beyond appreciating the moon, so typically  a romantic setting. Of course I said I'd look, and did, agreeing with her from my house to hers. The moon that night was brighter and more colorful than tonight's, but I recall that she saw its beauty and needed to share it.
